Separate always-on equipment from supporting loads so the backup plan reflects what must keep running.
Map the critical path
List server racks, network equipment, cooling and security separately. Record the electrical input at the supply point; equipment nameplate totals alone may not represent measured operating demand.
Plan the handover
A generator needs time to start and accept load. Where equipment cannot tolerate that gap, an appropriately designed UPS or other ride-through system needs to be part of the project brief. Confirm who supplies and integrates it.
Bring the system together
Discuss ATS operation, load steps, cooling restart and fuel access. Redundancy, maintenance bypass and protection require an engineered design; a catalogue rating does not establish uptime.
What to include in your enquiry
- Measured demand and future rack growth
- UPS topology and acceptable transfer time
- Cooling start sequence and ambient conditions
- Fuel autonomy and maintenance access
