Depth of Discharge (DoD)

Depth of discharge describes how much of a battery’s capacity has been used, usually as a percentage of a stated reference capacity.

How to use the term

An 80% planning value means using four-fifths of that reference capacity before accounting for conversion losses. The appropriate operating window depends on the battery and system controls.

What to check before choosing

Use manufacturer operating limits and warranty conditions. Increasing the calculator’s usable share changes the estimate; it does not authorize deeper operation of a real battery.
